Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Papertrail ("the Service"), operated by The Blue View Group Corporation ("we", "us", "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Papertrail is an intelligent document management platform that extracts, categorizes, and indexes invoices, bills, tax documents, and mail. The Service is available as a web application, mobile application (Android and iOS), and self-hosted Docker deployment.

3. Account Registration

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
• Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

4. Free Plan, Trial & Subscription

Papertrail has a permanent free plan that does not require a payment method: the full app on a single device, with unlimited documents, up to 1 GB of cloud storage, and monthly Intelligence allowances (currently 25 documents processed and 5 questions). We also offer a 30-day free trial of Pro that does not require a payment method (one trial per account; you may also skip the trial and subscribe immediately). Paid subscriptions:

• A paid subscription begins only when you choose a plan and provide a payment method — a trial never converts to a charge on its own
• Paid plans include stated monthly allowances (storage, documents processed, and questions). When an allowance is used up, the related feature pauses until the next month or until you choose to add more — we never bill overage automatically
• Optional add-ons (extra storage or Intelligence allowance) may be purchased on top of a Pro plan and cancelled at any time
• You may cancel at any time; cancellation stops future charges at the end of the billing period
• Subscription fees are billed monthly or annually depending on your chosen plan
• All fees are non-refundable except as required by law

5. Team & Family Sharing

Pro plans include team sharing for up to 3 members per workspace. The account owner is responsible for all activity within their workspace, including actions taken by invited members.

6. Your Data & Privacy

Your data belongs to you. Key points:

• Documents you place in the Private Folder (formerly called the Private Vault) are end-to-end encrypted on your device; we store ciphertext only and cannot read them
• Documents outside the Private Folder on our managed cloud are encrypted at rest and in transit, but are readable by the service so it can process them for you (classification, extraction, answering your questions)
• Run Papertrail on your own hardware (on-premises or self-hosted) and it is zero-knowledge to us — your documents and keys never reach our infrastructure
• You retain full ownership of all content you upload
• You may export or delete your data at any time
• See our Privacy Policy for full details — the two documents describe the same boundary and are kept in step

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any illegal purpose
• Upload malicious files or code
• Attempt to reverse-engineer or circumvent security measures
• Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
• Exceed reasonable usage limits or abuse API endpoints

8. Intelligent Features

The Service includes intelligent features such as document extraction, classification, and chat. These features:

• Are provided "as is" and may not be 100% accurate
• Should not be relied upon as legal, financial, or tax advice
• May be subject to usage limits depending on your plan

9. Self-Hosted Deployment

The self-hosted Docker version is provided under the same license. You are responsible for your own infrastructure, backups, and security when self-hosting. We provide no SLA for self-hosted deployments.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE BLUE VIEW GROUP CORPORATION SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination:

• You may request a data export within 30 days
• After 30 days, your data will be permanently deleted
• No refunds will be provided for partial billing periods

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which The Blue View Group Corporation is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
